After the blazing and sweaty summers, monsoon showers come as a boon! The pleasant weather, cool and gentle breeze, cloud-covered skies, endless cups of tea and what not, everything seems and feels perfect! However, this season calls for some caution, especially when it comes to children. Bacterial, fungal and parasitic infections, along with various other issues are common during the monsoons. So, here we have listed some tips to keep your children as fit as a fiddle.

Protection against mosquitoes

  • Clear the stagnant water all around your house.
  • Always apply a mosquito repellent cream, which is prescribed by a physician.
  • Long sleeved clothing and full-length pants are a great option whenever your child is going out.
  • Use a mosquito net.
  • Keep your surroundings spick and span.

Eat healthy food

  • The rainy season is the cause of several waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea and typhoid. Therefore, you must always use filtered water or boiled water.
  • Always keep the food covered and never exposed as it will become the breeding ground for germs.
  • Wash the fruits and vegetables thoroughly with salt water or warm water to get rid of all the germs.
  • Only consume freshly prepared food.

Hot Beverages

During this season, you must feed your children hot food and hot beverages such as healthy vegetable soups, warm milk, etc. to avoid all the throat problems.

  • Children are vulnerable to illness during the monsoon season, therefore, make sure they spend most of their time indoors. Organize fun activities for your kids and their friends indoors, so that they do not go out.
  • Don’t let your children consume street food, junk food, and oily food. Their immune system is not as strong as yours, so, the hot pakoras on the street might look delicious, but don’t bring them home or feed them to your kids.
  • Make sure your kid follows a healthy and a nutritious diet, regularly, which includes soup, yoghurt, oats, fruits, and chickpeas in a limited quantity.
  • Always bathe them using an antiseptic soap.
  • Ask them to wash their feet properly with lukewarm water after coming from outside. Also, don’t make them wear plastic, canvas or leather shoes as feet can’t breathe in these. Go for casual sandals or slip-on. If they have to wear shoes, apply anti-fungal powder to avoid infections.
  • Ask them to stay in an air-conditioned room to stay aloof of sweat rash or prickly heat.
